知識は力であるがそれは善を行う力であるのとまったく同様に悪を行う力でもある。科学的知識の増加とともに、人間の悪を行う力は、善を行う力に比例して増えてゆく。したがって、現代の科学技術が提起する本当に大切な問題は、「人間はほかの惑星に住むことができるか」ではなく、「人間は自分の惑星に住み続けることができるだろうか」であろう。これに対する喜ばしい答えは、われわれが特定の国家や集団ではなく、人類全体の幸福という立場で物事を考えることができるようになる場合にのみ可能となるだろう。

Knowledge is power, however, it could be no less than to do bad things than to do good things. With increasing scientific knowledge, the human power to do bad things is proportionate to those to do good things. Therefore, what the most important problem we present must be that "can human beings live in the other planet?", but that "can human beings keep living in this planet?". The pleasant answer for this could be possible to get when we become thinking about our future from the stand point of whole human being's happiness.
